Popularity of Australian Education

Australian Education International’s (www.aei.dest.gov.au) full year international student data for year 2007 show that there were 455,185 enrolments by full-fee paying international students in Australia. This amounts to 19% increse in enrolments over 2006. Salient AEI findings include:

  • A 19% increase on the previous year 2006.
  • Top 5 nationalities contribute 54% of all enrolments. India with 63.9% growth and China with 18.9% jointly contributed 37.5% of all international students enrolments to Australia.
  • Double digit growth occured in ten additional markets including Nepal (241.2%), Columbia (82.3%), Pakistan (54.6%) and Vietnam (44.1%).
  • The Vocational Education & Training (VET) sector had the strongest growth in enrolments of all the sectors, primarily due to significant growth from India followed by Nepal and China (14.2%).
